Why read the original language
Translation is interpretation. Hebrew words carry shades of meaning, wordplay, and structure that even a careful English or Kiswahili translation cannot fully preserve. Once you can read the Hebrew alphabet, this course introduces the basics of biblical Hebrew and translation, so familiar verses open up in ways a translation alone cannot show you.

Hebrew and Kiswahili are related through Arabic. Our course leverages this relationship to create a unique connection with Hebrew for East African students. Instruction takes place in English and Kiswahili. After earning our Hebrew Leaders Certificate, students continue with Biblical reading and first studies in biblical grammar and translation.

Is this a spoken Hebrew or Ulpan course?
No. This course teaches you to read biblical Hebrew and understand translation basics. It is not modern conversational Hebrew and not an Ulpan.
How long does it take to learn to read Hebrew?
The course is structured as 2 introductory classes plus 16 regular classes. Most diligent students are reading Hebrew by class 16.
How much do lessons cost?
Hebrew Readers East Africa fees are intended to be affordable. The average cost of a class is about 400 kes.
